LEGAL AID BOTSWANA (LAB) is a statutory body corporate that was established on the 1st January 2015 by an Act of Parliament being the Legal Aid Act CAP 16:02, hereinafter the ‘Act’. Affiliated to the new Ministry of Justice as a parastatal
OUR APPROACH
Access to Justice
We provide our services through in-house lawyers and through outsourced private lawyers. We are NOT AN INSURANCE COMPANY you have to go through a means test to determine if you qualify for LAB services.
APPLICANTS
Who Qualifies
Only citizens of Botswana, permanent residents and recognised refugees, who cannot afford a lawyer, qualify for legal aid.

Following the successful piloting of the legal aid services project in Botswana from September 2011, the Government decided to establish it as a permanent independent public entity.
Who is an indigent person per, LAB policies?
A natural person who qualifies for legal aid in terms affordability/the means test set out in the LAB guide.
